Even though the weather is simply too hot, some of us still like to get outside and get a bit of exercise.
The NC Arboretum has shaded trails throughout its grounds. Located right by Bent Creek, it is no surprise but this was our first visit!
When the shade isn't enough, the creek is a fantastic spot to dip your toes in. The water will still be chilly.
We live just south of Asheville so we also enjoyed how close the drive was. If you are headed toward Zen tubing or Bent Creek, it is worth the $12 parking fee to drop in!
Looking for a beautiful & green spot for your wedding backdrop? I'd say The NC Arboretum is worth a look.
Starting in the evening at Max Patch can be unpredictable.
The clouds rolls in. The clouds roll out.
The sun starts to set then fades away behind these crazy clouds.
Once we reached the top (a short but very steep climb) of the bald , we set up a picnic. This picnic was celebratory. We're in the works of buying our very first home and just passed an important step.
So, as we continue our personal Summer Hiking Challenge, it was clear that this picnic would be at our favorite spot. It is about a 1-2 hour drive to Max Patch (depending on the route, weather and traffic).
Around 7:30pm, the sun was definitely gone. The clouds had overtaken, in fact, I think we were just sitting inside of a cloud.
We enjoyed the finale of the evening and packed up as a few other hikers walked by.
Another beautiful evening in WNC. It's fun to break out of habits (early morning hikes predominately) for something different.
Where to next...
Asheville lover? Are you out there? Go find this Instagram feed and follow for all the local lovin' you need.
My camping adventure was also featured on their blog this week, yay.
My husband is a killer Chef.
He supports eating local, seasonal and sustainable.
It was only a matter of time until we'd join forces to... play with our food.
Holidays always remind us of spending time together.
Friends, family, co-workers, that guy over there. Get together. Enjoy each other's company.
Happy 4th of July all!
Cheers to eating well, capturing it for the memory & togetherness.
I am currently baby-stepping from one adulthood realization to the next. Adulthood is tough business.
Decisions, decisions. They're lined up, ready to be made. Make a few bad ones in a row and you quickly fall into self-doubt.
Every goal you try to achieve seems to be one step forward and two steps backward.
Support networks of people who really understand your situation tend to be few or far or nonexistent.
Living in Asheville is a constant silver lining for me though. When we lived in Orlando, San Antonio and Chicago, we always said how great it would be to live somewhere only a quick drive from a hike. Asheville is that somewhere.
When things get tough, you must appreciate what is not tough.
So, I'm grateful that in less than an hour, we can drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to Mt. Pisgah. Then we can hike our butts off the reach the top.
Literally climb a mountain.
We can escape our phone, email and responsibility for one morning. We can get up there and breathe in fresh air. We can remember what is really important. And I can work my glutes.
Life is much more than my "problems". The world is beautiful!
Our Summer Hiking Challenge continues, Mt. Pisgah was number 7.
And here is an inch worm, showing us how it's done. And putting things into perspective.
